Our puzzles and the planet

We started Cloudberries with two clear visions.

The first was to create beautiful jigsaw puzzles that look and feel amazing (check!). 

The second and more important goal was to do things the ‘right’ way. That means being respectful, looking after our customers, and having a lasting, positive impact on this planet and the people who inhabit it. 

Since day one, we’ve tried to put quality, sustainability and respect at the heart of what we do. Here are just some of the things we’re doing to help affect positive change through puzzling.

One tree planted for every puzzle sold

Back on 1st January 2020, we began planting a tree for every Cloudberries puzzle sold – whether directly from our website, online through another site like Amazon or from one of our carefully selected stockists. (From September 2023, this applies to sales through our own website only).

To date, we’ve planted hundreds of thousands of trees, and are incredibly proud of what we’e achieved together.

We’ve committed to a lasting partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects, a non-profit that exists to help reforest some of the world’s most fragile environments. This means that by supporting Cloudberries, you will be directly helping to fund tree planting projects in countries like Indonesia, Nepal and Madagascar (the exact location depends on the time of year, planting needs and other factors). 

Eden Projects was a natural partner for Cloudberries as they not only strive to restore native forests but also work hard to empower local communities, create shelter for wildlife, and help regulate the climate through concerted tree-planting programs. They also help locals guard native trees to full maturity, providing lasting work and helping to lift some of the world’s poorest people out of poverty. 

Sustainability by design

Here’s the truth: when we started Cloudberries we had no idea whether we would be able to sell any puzzles at all. But when the first few orders started rolling in, we made a decision: we would try our best to tread lightly.

What does that mean in practice? Well, all Cloudberries puzzles are made with recycled paper and board. We also use vegetable based inks on all of our designs. And since 2019, all of our puzzles and boxes are made with sustainably sourced paper (look for the logo printed on our puzzle boxes). 

We’re aware that selling puzzles has an impact on the world we live in, and we’re constantly striving to make improvements on this front.

High levels of welfare

We like to know that our puzzles are being produced by happy workers in a safe, healthy environment. We manufacture most of our puzzles here in Europe, in one of the continent’s most developed countries, where full-time staff enjoy good working conditions and are entitled to benefits like paid holidays.

Sponsoring non-profit events

We sometimes sponsor not-for-profit events, or niche puzzling events that try to use puzzles to bring people together for some quality face-to-face interaction. Running an event that you think we could help with? Email us and we’ll see what we can do. 

Strict quality and safety standards

Our puzzles meet strict EU standards for toy safety, which means you can puzzle safe in the knowledge that you’re not being exposed to harmful chemicals or other nasties. We also conduct regular spot checks to avoid problems like missing pieces or incorrectly cut puzzles. If you do notice a problem, just contact our team of real-life puzzle nerds and they will help you out!
